KAMFARIE 2010
QUADLANDER 600 ATV
The Darwin Motorcycle Club recent ran its annual Kamfarie race, four hours of torture for man and machine and the new SYM Quadlander 600 was more than up for the challenge!
Held near Gun Point, Darwin at the beginning of May, the 10 kilometre course was more than some could handle with waist deep bog holes full of sticky black mud through to water crossings so deep they lapped at racks.
E-Summer (SYMs Darwin Dealer) sent along David Davison as the pilot on board their SYM Quadlander 600 4x4 to test it to its limits. Within the first lap he’d tried to drown the red beast in handle-bar deep water but managed to get the Quadlander 600 fired up again and out of trouble.
Heat, humidity, dehydration and pure exhaustion hampered every competitor and along with mechanical failure, claimed more than 60 percent of the field from finishing the 2010 Kamfarie hell race! Locals admitted that these were the worst conditions they had ever experienced in the long history of the race.
David managed to manipulate his way through eight gruelling laps of the 10 kilometre course before his mental and physical state took its toll. The last lap saw him bogged in two feet of mud for nearly an hour and whilst working to salvage the Quadlander 600 he ran out of water and everything started to go “pear shaped”. The young mechanic was forced to retire just 20 minutes shy of finishing this intense four hour event, the mind said yes but the body said no.
The SYM Quadlander 600 was completely standard kit except for a deep water air box modification and Kenda 26” mud tyres. “Everyone’s ecstatic about how well the bike held up with just a few cuts and scratches and a new armour of black mud; if this is a sign of its quality we’re in for a great future in ATVs!” said Tim Black, SYM’s National Sales Manager.
And as for David, he’s already gearing up for some more action next year!
